Uttar Pradesh has just 1.38 lakh nurses and midwives for its population of over 23 crore; though it was allocated ₹270 crore in Union Budget for building 27 nursing colleges, the State faces the challenges of paucity of faculty for training and the quality of students who graduate from such institutions
